| Believe it or not but I smoked 27 years of my life. Ough, it is terrible to imagine. Why I did it? For what reason? I just wasted money and spoiled my health. It is good that I've changed my mind at the right time and now it is my second year that I don't smoke at all!!! (yes, exactly so!) And I want to share my experience of deliverance from this rotten habit with you.
During the last 7 years of my passion for smoking I was a pack a day smoker of cigarettes containing 3 mg of nicotine and tar (it is specified on one side of a pack). And, sure enough, I dreamt, as well as all smokers do, of quitting smoking from the next Monday, but for some reason this Monday had not ever "emerged". No, of course there were Mondays but somehow they were not "right" ones.
I thought, as I couldn't give up smoking, what if I tried to smoke cigarettes with even less content of nicotine. In this case my organism would be less poisoned, wouldn't it? And my organism, after such a smoking experience, was weakened - after going up on the second-third floor I was short-winded, my heart began to prick more often. I start wheezing. So, there appeared problems with my health.
As I can't give up smoking then I will smoke lighter cigarettes, - I decided and chose cigarettes containing 1 mg of nicotine. At the beginning, after the first cigarette, I didn't realize whether I smoked or not. When you are smoking such a cigarette it seems that you just take in the air and you can't smoke to your heart's content. However, in 2 weeks I got accustomed to new cigarettes and a pack a day was quite enough for me.
I felt better after such changes. But I wanted more. And one day it turned out that I ran out of cigarettes but I was in a lazy mood to go out and buy some more (in some cases laziness is a useful thing). So, I stayed at home. Easily like this I refused smoking.
I think that if I smoked cigarettes containing 6-7 mg of nicotine (by the way, look at your packs) I wouldn't ever be able to quit smoking. Because your organism got used to a certain dose of nicotine and demand it every 1,5-2 hours. However, after replacing my cigarettes for lighter ones, the organism's need in nicotine was also reduced. And gradually I became to get out of the habit of smoking. And, at last, I HAVE WITHDRAWN FROM IT!
Of course I made sudden efforts to quit smoking earlier, but they yielded no results, I failed every time. It is very difficult to give up smoking abruptly, when your organism got used to large doses of nicotine. At the beginning it is better to switch over to cigarettes with less content of nicotine and only then quit abruptly.
So, I recommend everybody this way of quitting. It wouldn't hurt to try it, at least you will conserve your health if you are not able to refuse smoking completely.
