Smoking is injurious to not only your health but also the health of your family. By smoking your family is also affected indirectly as when you smoke the environment also smokes. According to estimation by WHO 1.1 billion people smoke that is almost one-third of the world's population smoke.

 Smoking is the reason for the death of 3.5 million people every year. 5, 11,700 people died in Europe in the year of 1990 alone due to smoking. It is believed that 30 percent of the people who don't smoke but live with a smoker have developed an increased risk of lung cancer.

Harmful effects of smoking for females

Smoking does a great harm to females and they too must quit smoking. Women who smoke generally look older than their actual age, this is because the nicotine in tobacco contracts the spasm of capillary blood vessels. As a result of which there is shortage of oxygen and blood supply to the skin. Smoking also leads to infertility. Smoking increases the chances of infertility by 2.7 times. Smoking also leads to irregular menstruation as the nicotine in tobacco reduces the secretion of sex hormones. It is even more dangerous if one's husband is a smoker as infertility rate of smoking couples is 5.3 times higher than that of non-smoking couples.

Harmful effects of smoking for a Pregnant Women

More than anyone a pregnant woman is in more danger from the harmful effects of smoking and she must take immediate steps to quit smoking. The unborn baby is affected greatly due to smoking. Even if a pregnant woman is a non-smoker she should avoid smoking environment as it can harm the baby. Smoking affects the health of your baby as smoking can lead to birth of an undersized baby, it can also lead to placental damage, it also results to psychological and physical disorders in baby and premature birth. Pregnant Women who smoke are at a greater risk of facing abortion than that of a non-smoker.

Harmful effects of smoking for Males

Smoking is very harmful for males as smoking men are at a high risk of being impotent. Many sexual problems are faced by smoking men. The sperm quality and quantity is lower of a smoker than that of a non-smoker. The reproductive organ of males is also damaged due to smoking. Nicotine in tobacco damages your circulatory system due to which the risk of heart ailments is increased. Due to smoking there are many lung diseases caused such as pneumonia, lung cancer and chronic bronchitis. Smokers who are suffering from hereditary diseases like asthma are killing their lungs by smoking. The mental health of smokers is also affected. Smokers suffer from various short time disorders like paranoia, persistent headaches and depression. They also suffer from long term disorders like memory loss, maniac, anxiety attacks and depression. The worst long term disorder of smoking is suffering from psychotic symptoms which eventually lead to death of a person. Chronic smokers develop bad breath.
